happy employees, happy company: how sso helps wasabi frontline employees to redeem their rewards

At Yapster, we’ve partnered with Alpaka, a next generation workforce management software for small businesses, to provide our customers with single sign-on on our platform. Through SSO, employees can swiftly access work interfaces with a single login – all from the comfort of their Yapster comms app!

At Wasabi, employees work hard to ensure customers are served freshly prepared Japanese-style cuisine at an affordable price all around the UK. The Wasabi team has chosen Yapster as their comms app, but also as a tool to allow frontline employees to intuitively access their rewards, such as their discount vouchers. On the Yapster apps tab, Wasabi teammates can click on the ‘perks vouchers’ icon and instantly be provided with a unique voucher code which can then be redeemed by being entered on the till. Easy peasy!

Successful businesses not only provide their workers with rewards that serve them, but also make it easy for them to redeem and access these perks. According to Forbes, employee recognition matters now more than ever. In times of economic uncertainty and in the midst of a recruitment crisis, ensuring that employees feel appreciated and rewarded by their leaders is key to retention and job satisfaction.

Here’s how Alpaka’s SSO works for Wasabi – and why you should consider implementing it too!

Our embedded directory allows you to easily request a unique voucher code through Alpaka’s integration

Single sign-on frontline employees

Make use of your employee perks on the Yapster apps tab.

On Yapster, the company directory allows you to access all members of your team – or organisation. As an employee logs into Yapster and clicks on the apps tab, their identity is recognised by the application and a unique code is generated for them, allowing them to redeem their discount voucher instantly!

Once Alpaka is sure of the identity of the employee, the software blocks all eventualities of double-vending by ensuring that the voucher hasn’t already been redeemed. At Wasabi, discount codes are generated on a daily basis. If an employee attempts to redeem a one-time reward a second time, the same code will be issued – and the till will block the transaction.

“Even though people in the past had used more than one voucher per day, we should only allow one per day. It just stops so many routes of misuse!” - Chris Scarth, IT Director at Wasabi

Keep track of employee reward utilisation through Alpaka’s SSO

Alpaka collects information regarding the use of codes generated by the voucher app. Before the implementation of the SSO, Wasabi used to write off 1000 meals a day to wastage – simply because employee free meals weren’t trackable! By keeping track of reward utilisation, Wasabi improved their accountancy system and are now able to look at the value and cost of the promotions they offer workers. With frontline employees being less likely than their office peers to redeem their rewards, ensuring that systems are in place to make their experience as swift as possible is key to employee satisfaction.

“Is Steve missing out on something he’s entitled to?” - Phillip Rodgers, Alpaka CEO

Tracking employee rewards through a SSO is also about improving employee experience, which ultimately helps reduce churn – a topic of massive importance in the hospitality industry. If your employees feel appreciated and taken care of, they’ll give their best to the company in return! On the Yapster apps tab, Wasabi employees can access a plain-English guide to using their voucher system to ensure the experience is as intuitive as possible.

The utilisation rate of employee vouchers has almost doubled since Wasabi chose to implement Alpaka’s single sign-on on Yapster, including 50% discounts for factory workers and 100% discounts for branch employees!
